Steel and Wood - Intimate Still-life

PRINTS

Meat grinder plate

The mundane and inanimate objects of our surroundings often go unnoticed or underappreciated. The simple tools and objects around us are devices and designs to improve our lives. When they are presented in a restricted context, their characteristics and significance is more easily recognized.

The grinder plate for a meat grinder is a piece of metal used to mince the tougher and less palatable cuts of beef and pork into ground meat more easily handled and digested. Its teeth slowly wear down as it leaves an impression on our food, but its stainless steel surface still holds shine.

This work presents an intimate perspective on the tool in a way that shows its beauty under dramatic light, displayed on organic paper with the Van Dyke brown photographic process.
