When the landscapes of the desert cast out as far as you can see, it is scarce rainclouds and their shadows that accent the curve of earth that is The Great Basin. Engulfing the state of Nevada and Death Valley, this basin is one of the largest water sheds on earth, and it is parched on the surface.
April brought a blessing of cloud coverage that dramatically amplified the range of light playing on the dunes just outside Badwater. Under the cast of shadows, the landscape transforms from views of a bleached bright expanse, to a view of revealed hills and ridges of rolling shade.
