Desert Space and Depth

In an environment where there is an abundance of open space, it is easy to appreciate the immensity of the horizon and how it's wide openness affects our perspective.

Under sun or shadow-casting clouds, the arid desert view stretches for tens of miles in multiple directions-- the spanning sky is supported by the rugged and crusty mountain ranges.

Travelling through the hills and valleys of Nevada and California, the view changes slow and gradually, but the varied compositions of undulating hill-sides are in a constant flux. The arms of the hills and faces of the mountains are deceptive; it is hard to determine distance without a human reference of size.

With increasing distance comes an atmospheric interference, a softening hue encompasses the further ridges and mountain ranges...and with this a change in color. At or below sea level and in the intense heat, the sunlight plays with the atmosphere to create dramatic swaths of color.
