FOLDED STREETS and URBAN CREASES
Digital Photography
Maps of our surroundings take landforms of varying shape and present them on a flat surface. How does this change how we perceive the land we travel on? What happens when those forms of flat land we call maps are presented in new ways?
What lies on the edge of the map? Folds create tension and separate what should effectively be conjoined. Right angles and straight edges compose our houses, our cities, and our maps. Reconstructions at small scales, maps give the ability to comprehend something large, as a form of manageable information... and more importantly in an organized manner.

Creases in a map create a new landscape of form in flat paper surfaces. Angled and folded, the information on the map becomes jumbled and incomprehensible. With that comes an abstracted view of a map detracted from it initial purpose. The harmony of patterns in maps create cropped features of emphasis, and obstruct or minimize by folding or creasing.
