CULTURAL JUXTOPOSITION
Mixed Media Collage Series
In an attempt to combine differing cultures and histories into a new form of shared or global culture, these collages juxtapose imagery that explores the progress of mankind. While we all celebrate the differences in who we are and where we're from, there is often a loss in a greater identity when we divide and categorize our populations. We are all citizens of Earth and are gifted with one shared Reality. This collage series is an exercise in representing our universal and globalized society and how we are ultimately related in our shared and separate sub-realities.
PROGRESS OF MOMENTUM
Technology allows mankind to innovate beyond the ordinary and reach new potentials. Some technologies, like transportation, develop slowly over time but compound and lead to greater efficiency and growth. From horseback and carriages, to jet fueled propulsion, we can now travel in unfathomable timespans compared to our past.
How do we take for granted the way we can so easily go from one side of the globe to the other? What was a once-in-a-lifetime experience can now be done in more or less a single day. What do we have in store for the future, will we reach interplanetary travel and look back at how antiquated the Boeing 747 was?
Cultural Amalgam: Momentum, 2022. Printed media collage, (8.24"x 6.5").
Our desire to explore has driven us this far, and the consequences have been overcome...but not without sacrifice. We celebrate these industries and forget the harm that comes with it. From lead-laced fuel that poisoned us, to the lives lost through air raiding and sieging of tactical warfare, the technologies we use can bring loss as much as prosperity. With new development we must remember to look back at past consequences and keep a wide frame of understanding. Doing so we can realize how previous innovations have shaped our lives for the better and the worse and can warn us about future mistakes.
