JACOB'S LADDER OF ASCENSION
The journey of life is often viewed as a progression. We strive and improve in the hopes of a better tomorrow. Many find solace in the certitude of life after death, and put faith in a peaceful destiny with the faith in future ascension to a world void of suffering and pain. Whether it is a metaphor or literal place, the idea of a place of resolution helps to envision a Heaven or the afterlife as something graspable.
Jacob's Ladder is the path and the ideal direction that we lead our lives by. Hubris is quelled when sacrifice and humility guides us towards the right path, and that path is outlined in the many stories and themes of men. But it also a reminder that folly can lead one astray and become distracted by untrue aims. Imagery and metaphors such as ladders and ascension into the heavens provides an easy way to picture the right path and bring peace of mind and certainty in a world of uncertainty.
