Macro Mineral Study IX: Au

Au- Gold

The great obsession of civilization, gold has long captivated the eyes of men and drove them to action. The bright yellow-red metal almost glows with reflective light, and the delicate and soft surface becomes a symbol for beauty and ideal perfection.

Gold does not corrode or rust, doesn't taint and exists eternally. The residue of exploding stars, most gold on earth's crust is literally from the heavens, and through the ages has been associated with the height of existence and used as a symbol for the holy and god(s).

Gold is both malleable and ductile, able to be pounded into atomically thin sheets. It has been applied to artwork, molded into jewelry and sculptures in the name of art and religion. It has been essential in scientific discovery from the discovery of the structure of matter, to the reflective surfaces of the Hubble Telescope, to micro processors and wiring found in every computer and camera sensor.
