Pastoral Self-portrait: Bucolic Melancholia
Multi-layered collage of hand-stenciled van dyke brown photographic prints.
The imagery is sourced from digital versions of 35 mm photographs, part of the Pastoral Self-portrait Series. The abrasive barbed-wire environment is contrasted with the soft skin of the arm, seemingly entwined in the chaotic surroundings.
The stenciled-out forms are inspired by the angles and geometry of the mysterious polygon that is featured in Albrecht Dürer renowned etching Melancholia I, 1514.
