Banner Collage: Van Dyke Brown and Cyanotype

In a world of emotions and events, in the persistent and cyclical incessant time, of which brings fortune and misfortune, we have difficulty in expressing that sense of survival found in the everyday patterns of our lives.

A Survival, survival from the moment, from the beating past, and the anticipated future. we are all powerless in the hands of the clock, in the convention of time, and the craving for more time.

Survival in Cycle: 21st Century Patterns, 2018. Vandyke and Cyanotype Collage. (10" x 28")

Survival In Cycle

This Van Dyke Brown and Cyanotype print collage is an expression of anxiety, a feeling of alertness and a response to self-awareness and identity in an ever-increasing pace of time.

There is a vibration in life that is reverberated through us; some are good at expressing and expelling them through spoken word; others have difficulty in releasing thoughts in sizable and logical forms. Instead, as time goes on some of us bottle and hold emotions, or we never may sense or process the events of the past.

This builds up, until a fury or bout of energy swells up. It can be exasperating, it can feel threating and may put some of us in a state of shock or broken composure. It is the cultivation of our fears and stress in our everyday lives, expressed outward.

The environment which at most moments seems stable and inviting, becomes a chaotic and unfamiliar mess. The air feels thick and little space is left between the previous, the present and the promising versions of you.

This is the feeling of survival in a head-spaced world, a 21st century of mixing and changing patterns. An amalgamation of all that has happened, and will happen, yet witnessed only in the present.
