Trail Markings: Digital Diptych

Digital Photographs: Nature Diptych

Two formal photographs that present trees marking a path within separate wooded parks. There is an easily recognizable identity to the markings that resemble the other, but the execution of the markings couldn't be more contrasting.

One exposes an abrasive and gauged dark rectangle that seems convex and retreats. The rough bark of the tree adds to the uninviting surface, but defines it from its background. The rectangle resembles a small black door, a portal into the trees beyond, but from the other side of the the tree would have gone unnoticed to a passerby.

The second tree so subtle with a white rectangle of paint might go unnoticed even from in front. Its clean smooth bark unremarkable, and the white patchy marking even less so in the bright sunny splotches of the forest beyond. Its surroundings blend into the tree edges as the marking will fade in time.

Both tree's have been giving a purpose, but what each reveals on its surface seems to say more.
