Vitality in Death

Updated: Sep 19, 2021

Microcosm of Vitality in Death, 2012. Digital Photograph.

I cannot express the deepest despair,

of a mother losing child, although

empathy does allow me to share,

grief of ones faithful dog, all the while,

his body slow, damaged beyond repair.

To have him by my side hurts much more,

attention is dwindling, time is not hindering

and a clear pending death rests outside the door,

the air is stifling, self blame is trifling,

The glorious memories are scratched at like sores.

Through all this suffering, through body or mind,

does it make sense, of great pattern or divine?

in the arena of living, fairness turns blind,

What will happen blends with the happened,

in a spectacle of emotion, and the exhale of a sigh.
